There are many home builders around our area. The houses all look great and exciting when brand new. But some will last and some will wear out. What really matters in a house is the quality of the construction, the materials used and the workmanship of the builder. But we weren't building a house, just doubling it. And since we were adding on to the house that we had originally built and remodeled ourselves we had learned a little about quality, energy efficiency and the right way to do things so they last after the new wears off. I guess you can say we were a little picky.

When looking for a contractor to build our major addition (Master suite, Large family room, extra bath and laundry room) we came across Howard Custom Homes. Several meetings with them and we became more and more comfortable that this was the right builder. JT and I could discuss rafter and joist sizes or efficiency aspects of windows while Carolyn and my wife talked about the colors, textures, tile and floors. They weren't the cheapest, of course you get what you pay for, but they did have a quality product built the right way that at the end was the best long term decision.

Howard Custom Homes helped us through the design and financing process. Permits, drawings, banks; we'd built our original house 30 years ago so we're a little out of touch with how to maneuver through that but Carolyn was there to guide us through. JT kept us informed ahead of time on the work plans; who was coming, what they were doing, and he kept his word on that. That was especially important since they were adding on to the house that we continued to live in. They worked hard to minimize disruptions and keep us feeling secure while they added on.

Custom is not just a word in the name of their company. It's what they do. We had some special requests; LED lighting, western red cedar, metal roofing, 2x6 walls, dual ceiling fans, a sitting area looking into the backyard off the master bedroom and a Dog Shower in the laundry room. I think the dog shower was a first for JT and Carolyn but it came out perfect.

So would I use them again? You betcha! They did what they said they would do. In today's world you get a lot of words and promises but often times it doesn't come through, Howard Custom Homes kept their word. All we have to do now is sit back and enjoy our new addition. For anyone looking for a custom home builder, we highly recommended J.T & Carolyn Howard. They will not just build your home , they will build your dream home , as they did with us. After our first meeting with them , we knew they were the ones for us. You will get a true custom home with quality from the foundation to the roof and everything in between. We had heard stories about the stress of home building , but with J.T and Carolyn managing the construction you will have a worry free experinece. You just need to pick out your choices of materials , colors , appliances and ect. when Carolyn lets you know when they are needed. J.T is a hands on builder. You will see him with a hammer or saw in hand or on the back of a tractor. In the end they went beyond our expectations. Picking them to build our home was the best decision we made. After our original builder walked off the job, completing only the slab and frame, we contacted the Howard’s on the recommendation of one of their subcontractors. It was a relief to find a knowledgeable and helpful, friendly builder. They took over the job and helped us deal with our lender. Communication was excellent. We could call with questions, concerns or changes and the Howard’s were ready to help. Communication from them was just as good. They let us know what was happening and when the various stages of work would be completed. Also, we were contacted if any questions about what we wanted arose. The house was finished on schedule. What started out being a nightmare with the original builder, ended up being a great experience having the Howard’s build our home.
